PRC 2017 Summer Internship Program

Positive Resource Center (PRC) seeks interns passionate about public interest law for its 2017 summer program. The nine-week program will start on June 2, 2017 and end on August 4, 2017.

Description of PRC

PRC is a community-based 501(c)(3) non-profit whose mission is to assist people affected by or at risk of HIV/AIDS through culturally appropriate counseling, education, training and advocacy. Through its Public Disability Advocacy Program and Equal Access to Health Program, PRC provides direct legal services to people living with HIV/AIDS and mental health disabilities on Social Security disability and healthcare access matters.

Description of Internship Program

PRC offers interns the opportunity to apply classroom lessons to real life experiences in the practice of law. Working closely with a supervising attorney, interns will gain skills in a range of areas including conducting client interviews, drafting persuasive letters, conducting legal research, writing hearing briefs, and/or preparing clients for administrative law hearings. Interns will have the opportunity to attend trainings related to healthcare access presented by PRC and/or other community partners. Interns may also work on special research projects related to disability advocacy and/or healthcare access, such as developing a training on the implications of repealing the Affordable Care Act for people who suffer from mental health


Applicants must demonstrate an aptitude and desire to advance social justice by advocating for disabled individuals and people experiencing barriers to healthcare. They must also demonstrate an ability to be sensitive to and work well with low-income individuals, people with psychiatric disabilities, people living with HIV/AIDS, people of color, active drug users, people with a history of homelessness or incarceration, and people in the LGBT community.
